I don't want to increase screen time for students, so using paper and pencil is the best option for me and my students. The student companion would be more user-friendly if it were to include more space for students to work. This includes more ready-made graphs for students to fill in. This would reduce the amount of time students are using to copy and more time for them to focus on the content standards.
The student companion would also be more useful if it included already worked examples. This would allow them to have a guide to follow when trying problems on their own. It would also be nice to see the inclusion of formulas in the student companion. Again, this would reduce the amount of time the students are copying and give them more time to focus on working through the math.
I have attached a rough example of what this might look like.
Yes, students need more room to work out their math problems. I am a third-grade teacher, and lessons 5-4 require the student to write a story. There is not enough room, and students at this age tend to write bigger letters.
