numerical answers in correct number of significant figures

I noticed that on the Physics activities that can be assigned like for example in the practice problems set "Will the wire brake?" students have to enter the answers with correct number of significant figures, can teacher be allowed to change that to instead decimal places, integers, fractions, etc. ?
