Do not erase grades when assessment is returned in Canvas

I had students take an online assessment in 5th grade. When the test was returned so they could do corrections the original grade was removed from Canvas. I do not know if this is a Canvas setting for a Savvas setting. This is a problem because if the student does not return the assessment then the grade will be a zero and I have no way of getting the original grade back.
